June Presidents Message

Dear ASHRAE Atlanta Chapter Members,

My name is Mark Dahir, I am an Application Consultant at Mingledorff’s, and I have been your Chapter President for the year 2025 - 2026. I have been an ASHRAE member since 2007 and Atlanta Chapter member since 2008. I have served as the Refrigeration Chair for several years and have also served on the Board of Governors for the chapter.

I think we had a great year for Atlanta ASHRAE! Golf in the Fall and Spring, clay shooting in the Fall and Spring, a trade show in April for the first time in 9 years, hockey night, YEA meetups, and an all-day IEQ seminar series in May. All that in addition to our regular monthly chapter meetings! We plan to continue providing great events like these for 2026-2027, and I hope all of you will continue attending. We also plan to offer some sponsorship opportunities this year so please be on the lookout for those.

The end of June marks the end of the ASHRAE year, and I will be handing over the role of Chapter President to Matthew Perrella. I know he will do a superb job as the Chapter President for the coming year. There will be no chapter meetings over the Summer but watch your inbox for the announcement of the first Fall event in either August or September. Feel free to visit our LinkedIn page and the chapter website at www.ashraeatlanta.org, and make sure your email server allows messages from ashraeatlanta@wildapricot.org so you don’t miss anything!

You are all welcome to reach out to me directly with any feedback or questions you may have. The chapter is here to serve every one of our more than 900 members, and the participation and feedback of our membership is crucial to our success. We are always open to suggestions for what events or seminar topics you might find interesting and important. I can also help you get involved if you want to volunteer for the Atlanta chapter.

Thank you for supporting ASHRAE and the Atlanta Chapter!

Mark Dahir, PE

"Healthy Buildings: Designing for Life."

Bill McQuade, P.E., CDP, Fellow ASHRAE, LEED AP, will serve as the 2025-26 Society president. In his inaugural presidential address, McQuade introduced the theme for the 2025-26 Society Year, “Healthy Buildings: Designing For Life.” The theme emphasizes the critical role of indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in reducing environmental impacts to the built environment while supporting healthier, more resilient communities.

“Today, shelter is more than just a roof over one’s head,” said McQuade. “Shelter encompasses the hospitals we are born in, the homes where we find comfort, the schools where we learn, and the buildings we work in. A well-designed shelter prioritizes indoor environmental quality, ensuring good air quality, proper lighting, thermal comfort, acoustics and access to safe water, all essential for health and comfort. Providing safe, stable, and sustainable shelter is not just a basic human need, it is a fundamental pillar of societal advancement and long-term development.”
