Building Controls:  Smart Building Tools

High performance buildings are achieved through a combination of proper planning, system design, implementation, commissioning, and operation.   It requires the proper interpretation, application, and implementation of technologies and the process as a whole. 

 

A building controls system can be among the most economical and easily implemented energy efficiency strategy in high-performance buildings. The proper interpretation and implementation of control sequences makes all the difference in high performance. You will emerge from this session with a clear grasp of control system performance features, consequently ensuring an efficient, cost-effective system that maximizes energy savings and boosts efficiency throughout a high-performance building.

 

Learning Objectives

       Review essential controls strategies that every high-performance building should have in place

       Understand higher level control system functions and how they can benefit the sustainable aspects of a facility

       Learn how controls contribute to energy savings and sustainability

Speaker Biography:

 

Mr. Quirk is Vice President and Principal at DLB Associates where he is responsible for program management of technology integration, energy, and design efforts for various industries.  He was formerly a Principal Engineer with Verizon Wireless Network Organization where he was responsible for the development and administration of standards for the design, construction, and operation of their core infrastructure nationwide. 

He is a current voting member of SPC90.4 – Energy Standard for Data Centers, and the Past Chair of ASHRAE TC9.9 – Mission Critical Facilities, Data Centers, Technology Spaces, and Electronic Equipment.  David has been a past voting member on NFPA76 and NFPA75, as well as the Task Group leader for various research projects and NFPA Standards updates for data centers and telecommunications buildings
