Earliest Air Conditioned Building in Atlanta.

The first building to have air conditioning in the Atlanta area is still in use and continues to be one of the major landmarks in the Midtown section. The building is The First Church of Christ Scientist built in the classical Greek revival stylein 1914.

Air conditioning of the main auditorium was accomplished by building large air passages under the floor of the auditorium. Huge blocks of ice were placed in these passages, and large fans blew air over the ice into the air ducts in the auditorium to cool the space.

The church is located at 150 15th Street, N.E. Atlanta, GA 30309 (corner of Peachtree Street. and 15th Street)
