The Atlanta chapter of ASHRAE has a long tradition of sponsoring a yearly scholarship for Georgia engineering students who have shown an interest in the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) industry. This scholarship is administered through the Georgia Engineering Foundation (GEF), a 503(c) non-profit organization with volunteers that help collect scholarship applications and administer the award.
Applications for the 2013 engineering scholarships will be accepted by GEF April through August 2013. Further information on the application and selection process can also be found at the GEF website http://www.gefinc.org/
2012 Recipient: Dustin S. Smith
Dustin is an upper classman at the Georgia Institute of Technology where he is obtaining a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering. Dustin's inherits his mechanical aptitude from his father, who is an HVAC contractor.
Dustin has also worked with HVAC systems through 4-years of hands on work as a service technician for DADS Heating and Cooling, LLC. He brought this hands-on experience to Hussmann where he co-opedand worked to develop new engineering design drawings and solutions.
Between studies at Tech, Dustin has provided tutoring services and worked in admissions office to help answer questions from prospective students and their parents. When not focused on mechanical engineering, Dustin likes to get away by kayaking and camping and also finds time to volunteer in the community.
